Mt. Olive Evangelical Lutheran Church has been serving the communities of Iron Mountain, Kingsford, Niagara, Norway and Quinnesec since 1927. We draw members from as far north as Channing, as far south as Wausaukee, and as far west as Dunbar. Our church is small (about 120 members) yet the atmosphere is much like a family. Our motto is "growing in grace, rooted in love."
We are affiliated with the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). The WELS was founded in Milwaukee in 1850 with three congregations and has since grown to over 1,000 congregations in all fifty states and 16 foreign countries. The WELS has a membership of about 420,000, making it the third largest Lutheran church body in America.
It WELS is a conservative, confessional Lutheran church that basis its teachings only on the inspired, inerrant (without errors) Word of God. Its headquarters are in Milwaukee, WI. The WELS also operates
Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary in Mequon, WI (www.wls.wels.net),
Martin Luther College in New Ulm, MN (www.mlc-wels.edu),
Wisconsin Lutheran College in Wauwatosa, WI (www.wlc.edu), and two preparatory academies;
Luther Preparatory School (www.lps.wels.net) and
Michigan Lutheran Seminary (www.mlsem.org). The WELS also owns and operates
